Today started with http://www.meetog.com a mini blog like system like with Twitter. 
But it is something I like more as it's easy to incorporate in my normal My Weblog and still have some meaningful entries with enough info.

Rapidweaver

As always playing with blogging and website building systems, now a new site with Rapidweaver.

New iPhone App: TripJournal

I dl and bought the app yesterday, and it's great!

It is tracking where you are and the export can be to Google Earth with a KMZ file. Meaning the complete tracking and pictures if taken are exported to a file for Google Earth and will show like below example:

 

from what I did this morning. You can even experience yourself by dl the file

and open in Google Earth.

 

Another possibility is direct exporting to Picasa, see example.

PBWorks

Testing another wiki site; PBWorks. As written earlier I am looking more in-depth in the functionalities of wiki systems. I tested many in the past but always came back to blogging systems, but now with many additional functionalities in Springnote and PBWorks I think they are getting interested. Springnote

Always looking into other means of sharing info and I found Springnote, it is a Wiki system, but very extensive, which could even work as your blog. Check it out at my Springnote site at http://yimvmd.springnote.com.

Busy weeks to come

This week some interesting parties, Saturday the Pinoke Gala. Next week I will be in Berlin again for Online Educa, where we have a booth with one of our partners for their product SharePointLMS. With Christmas I am at home with my family and for New Year's Eve I am traveling for the first time to Rome. Returning beginning of January to hopefully start a better year.

Good weekend

Saturday perfect weather and with my parents strolled through de 9 straatjes in Amsterdam. It was rather busy and terraces were full op people. When there is some sun we act like it is Summer again, but actually the temperature was only 14 degrees Celcius, but with no wind and a clear sky it was rather welcoming after a bad week.

Sunday we finally won again with hockey and also the first mens team did, so it was a good party afterwards.

The weekend I also worked on Weebly, a very nice blogging solution, which might become a favorit of mine, see the started site.

Testing Blogs.mu

As I am still a big fan of Wordpress I am testing now a multi Wordpress installation at Blogs.mu.

It seems to be working fine and for a mere 9$ a month you can have 10 blogs running, all connected to each other.

Problem I see is there is no way of installing any other plugin ... not sure how to use it this way ... will check.

Square Space iPhone App

Writing my first mail in the new Square Space iPhone app and I really like it. I also have iBlogger which actually works with different blogging systems. The app is very modern, includes taking direct pictures and what is unique is you also get a statistics report of activity. Very nice.

Less social?

The Netlog behaviour made me think if I should use these kind of systems any further. We all know that whatever you write in the open is also there to stay. It can be to your advantage or disadvantage, especially when writing something negative and/or special.

I am not sure yet if I will quit most of the newest tools, but it is for sure a lesson not to have a company/website/tool takeover your agenda like Netlog did.

Netlog, bad behaviour

Yesterday I saw on a well known website in the Netherlands the fastest growing companies in the Netherlands. Netlog was number one. I wanted to test it out, it is functional comparable to Hyves and Facebook.

When adding some info the system asked if it could search the address book for people already in in Netlog. That seemed not to be a problem, ... it was/is. Because at the same time it sends an invitation to all people in your address book, extremely bad behavior. So do NOT use Netlog, it is a rather like spamming.

Finland and broadband

Finland's Ministry of Transport and Communications has made 1-megabit broadband Web access a legal right, YLE, the country's national broadcasting company, reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, every person in Finland (a little over 5 million people, according to a 2009 estimate) will have the right of access to a 1Mb broadband connection starting in July. And they may ultimately gain the right to a 100Mb broadband connection.

users, an 8% gain to reach 14.5 million total. The United Kingdom is
still the largest Facebook country in Europe, with 20.6 million monthly

other countries, Facebook grew at impressive double-digit rates per
month in September.

Great new photo service. It's like Flickr but you can also sell your own pictures. 5 Gb for free, and if you sell you get a Pro account for free.

Blogo

I worked in the past with many offline blogging systems, Macjournal, Ecto, etc. They all have their pros and cons, and of course Blogo also has them, but I think it is one of the most intuitive systems to use.

This entry is also written in and later added to my site without any problems. One of the main advantages of an offline blogging system is that you do not have to be constantly online to write your entries. Could have used it perfectly in Alaska :-).

Another interesting functionality is that when you drop in a picture it automatically crops the picture depending the preferred size of your Weblog width.

BTW you can even switch between writing for your blog or directly post to your Twitter account.

Less websites

I have had some issues again with an installed Open Source application and think it is better to just use a commercially hosted environment like this one at Squarespace. Although not free it is working perfectly, is very flexible and will have backups if needed. Meaning from now on I will be using this site as my main one.

I am still testing the hosted commercial system at Snappages, see hpkok.snappages.com. Although completely different from Squarespace it is extremely nice and easy to use in a completely Flash based environment.
